What is the Youth Building the Future program? We explain everything you need to know

The Mexican government understands the significance of investing in the youth to boost employment and their integration into the market.

Therefore, since 2019, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) has established this program that provides scholarships to Mexican youth aged 18 to 29 from all educational levels.

The goal is for all participants in this program to receive training and gain work experience for the job market over the course of 12 months.

The project takes place in partnership with various companies that welcome young people and provide them with space to work and gain knowledge and experience.

The government provides a monthly scholarship of $6,310 Mexican pesos and medical insurance through the Mexican Social Security Institute.

In 2023, approximately 480,000 young people will be selected to choose the area in which they want to work based on their interests and level of education.

What happens when the training is completed?

When the 12-month training period ends, there are several options for what can happen. The first option is that the Workplace Center where you worked will generate a training certificate through its Digital platform, which should include some important information, such as:

List:

The technical skills that the young person acquired as an apprentice;

The plan’s area of interest;

The type of training offered.

After that, the young person will be able to access the platform, view, and download that certificate, which will serve as an official document endorsing one year of work experience.

When applying for a new job, you can validate all your technical skills as a worker through this document.

A second option is that, once your training is completed, the Workplace Center may hire you if they are interested. This will depend on the skills and performance that the participant demonstrates during the training period.

New tools and increased knowledge

Once you have completed your training period (or even during it), you will also have the opportunity to take some courses and workshops that will help you develop more knowledge, skills, and competencies that can be very useful for you to start your own business that can serve as your main source of income. It is also possible that you may transition to offering your services as a freelancer.

Will I have any kind of program support after training?

Yes, once you have completed your training, if you are not hired by the Workplace where you did it, the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, through the National Employment Service portal, will continue to offer you support in finding an official job.

In other words, the program will continue supporting your transition process towards the various available job options.
