What is the Minimum Insertion Income Program? We explain everything you need to know
The Minimum Insertion Income Program is the name given to a group of different programs implemented by various autonomous communities in Spain, aimed at individuals and families without sufficient economic means to meet their basic needs. This constitutes a form of social intervention, often linked to employment insertion processes.
We highlight that this financial benefit receives different names based on the region or autonomous city and may be known as Basic Social Salary, Minimum Insertion Income, Guaranteed Income, among others.
The program is part of the Public Social Services System and is an exclusive competence of the Autonomous Communities and Cities. For this reason, each of them has the right to establish its own access method, requirements, complementary measures, as well as the duration and amount to be paid.
For that reason, we will clarify here some of the details related to the program in a general manner.

What is a family unit?
What is known and understood as a family unit is a group formed by the person applying for the benefit, in which case it will be a single-person family unit.
It can also be considered as a family unit, those individuals united to the applicant by marriage, duly registered de facto partnership, or similar relationship, which is evidenced by a sworn statement, as well as individuals linked to any of them by ties of consanguinity or affinity up to the first degree, or by adoption, guardianship, or family foster care, living in the same household. These family units are referred to as multi-person family units.
