What is the Cultural Bonus of 400 euros? We explain everything you need to know

The **Youth Cultural Voucher** is a program that began operating in Spain in 2002 and has three objectives:

To that end, the government earmarks 400 euros for young people turning 18 in the year 2023 to access these services. Beneficiaries have one year to make use of the entire benefit.

How can I use the bonus money?

It is essential to clarify how the money can be spent since it is not possible to spend it all on just one type of cultural product. The government’s goal is not only to promote culture among young people but also to stimulate the market in that area.

In this way, expenses must be distributed among three different sectors, with a maximum limit of expenses in each of them. We will now explain how the entire system works:

200 euros for live arts, cultural heritage, and audiovisual arts: this amount can be used for the purchase of tickets and subscriptions for performing arts, cinema, museums, libraries, exhibitions, scenic, literary, musical, or audiovisual festivals, including live music;

– €100 for cultural products in physical media: this will be allocated for the purchase of books, magazines, newspapers, and periodical publications. It also includes video games, musical scores, CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and vinyl records.

100 euros for digital or online consumption: subscriptions and rentals for music, reading or audiobook platforms, audiovisual content, purchase of audiobooks, purchase of digital books (e-books), subscription for multimedia file downloads (podcasts), online video game subscriptions, digital subscriptions to newspapers, magazines or other periodicals. All these subscriptions will last a maximum of 4 months.

What is not included in this voucher?

Some items are not included and cannot be purchased, such as stationery products, textbooks, printed or digital curricular materials, software equipment, printed or digital equipment, software, hardware, and computer and electronic supplies.

Excluded as well are musical instruments, sports, fashion, or gastronomy shows. Items categorized as X-rated or pornographic will also not be allowed.

It is worth noting here that this benefit can only be used at establishments or institutions affiliated with the program and operating within the national territory. Establishments engaged in the sale or provision of products, services, and cultural activities are also included.

How will the amount be available?

Thinking about how young people are connected to technology, the **Youth Cultural Bonus** is a virtual prepaid card for mobile phones.

Should you not have a phone with payment technology, you can request the Cultural Bonus in physical format when submitting your application.

Keep in mind that this card is personal and non-transferable, and it will not work at businesses that are not affiliated.

From the moment it is granted, you can use the €400 within the following 12 months.
