What is the Minimum Living Income? We explain everything you need to know
Taking into account the risk of poverty and social exclusion existing in some vulnerable groups in Spain, the government created the project known as the Minimum Income Scheme.
The aforementioned benefit applies to individuals who live alone or with others who also do not have the necessary financial resources to cover their basic daily needs, ensuring that they receive a minimum monthly income.
That is part of the Social Security protective action and is an attempt to ensure a real improvement in opportunities, social inclusion, and employment for all beneficiaries.
Who are the beneficiaries?
The recipients of this program can be individuals, household unit holders, or the household unit itself.
Individual beneficiaries:

Individuals at least 23 years old who, even if they share a residence with a cohabiting unit, do not integrate into it, provided that: they are not married, except if they have initiated proceedings for separation or divorce; they are not in a civil union with another person or are not part of another cohabiting unit;
Individuals aged 23 to 29 who must have had legal and effective residency in Spain and who, for at least the two years prior to the application, have lived independently.
– Individuals over 30 years old should provide evidence that, during the year immediately prior to said date, their residence in Spain was different from that of their parents, guardians, or caregivers.
– Adult women who are victims of gender-based violence or human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
– Individuals aged 18 to 22 who come from residential protection centers for minors in the different Autonomous Communities or are total orphans;

Head of household are the individuals who receive the benefit on behalf of the entire household unit and represent them. They must have legal capacity and be at least 23 years old.

The household unit is known as the group composed of all individuals living in the same residence, connected by marriage, civil union, or up to the second-degree relationship by blood or affinity, adoption.
What is the amount available for the Minimum Living Income?
The amount of the Minimum Living Income for the individual beneficiary or the cohabitation unit is understood as the difference between the guaranteed income and the set of rents and incomes of these people, provided that the resulting amount is equal to or greater than 10 euros per month. In this way, we clarify that this value in the year 2023 is:
List:
For a single beneficiary: 565.37 euros;
For the household, the previous amount increased by 30% per additional member from the second one, with a maximum of 220%. For 2023, the amounts are:
– 734.99 euros for a household consisting of one adult and one minor or two adults;
– 904.60 euros for a household formed by one adult and two minors, two adults and one minor, or three adults;
1,074.21 euros for a household consisting of one adult and three minors, two adults and two minors, or three adults and one minor, or four adults;
– 1,243.83 euros for a household consisting of one adult and four or more minors, two adults and three or more minors, three adults and two or more minors, or four adults and one minor.

The request for this benefit can be very important for many people in the vulnerable situations described above.
