What is the Cultural Bonus 400 euros? We explain everything you need to know

He Young Cultural Bonus It is a plan that began to operate in Spain in 2002 and has three objectives:

• Offer an economic boost for young people who turn 18 to discover culture;
• Revitalize the market and the entire cultural sector in Spain that has suffered since the beginning of the pandemic;
• Encourage young people to consume more cultural products.

For this, the government provides the amount of 400 euros so that young people who turn 18 in this year of 2023 can access these services. Beneficiaries have a period of one year to use the entire benefit.

How can I use the bonus money?

It is important to clarify the way the money can be spent, since it is not possible to spend everything with just one type of cultural product, since the government's objective, in addition to spreading culture among young people, is also to return to get the market in that area moving.

In this way, expenses must be distributed in three different sectors, with a maximum limit of expenses in each of them. We will immediately explain how the entire system works:

• 200 euros for live arts, cultural heritage and audiovisual arts: This amount can be used to purchase tickets and passes for performing arts, cinema, museums, libraries, exhibitions, performing, literary, musical or audiovisual festivals, including live music;
• 100 euros for cultural products in physical format: This will be directed towards the purchase of books, magazines, press materials and periodicals. Also included here are video games, musical scores, CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray and also vinyl records;
• 100 euros for digital or online consumption: subscriptions and rentals to musical, reading or audio-reading, audiovisual platforms, purchase of audiobooks, purchase of digital books (e-books), subscription to download multimedia files (podcasts), subscriptions to online video games, digital subscriptions to press, magazines or other periodicals. All these subscriptions will last a maximum of 4 months.

What is not included in this bonus?

Some products are not included and cannot be purchased, such as stationery products, textbooks, printed or digital curricula, software equipment, printed or digital; computer and electronic equipment, software, hardware and consumables.

Musical instruments, sports, fashion or gastronomy shows are also left out. X-rated or pornographic products will also not be allowed.

It is worth highlighting here that this benefit can only be used in establishments or those institutions that are members of the program and that are operating within the national territory. Establishments that work with sales activities or making available products, services and cultural activities are also included.

How will the amount be available?

Thinking about the way young people are connected to technology, the Young Cultural Bonus It is a virtual prepaid card for mobile phones.

If you do not have a phone with payment technology, it is possible to request the Cultural Bonus in physical format when making the request.

Remember that this card is personal and non-transferable and will not work in businesses and companies that are not members.

From the moment it is granted, you will be able to use the €400 during the following 12 months.
